Like a Dragon Gaiden was created in just six months

Games development is a serious investment that requires not only considerable money, but also time, although it seems that RGG Studio came up with how to get around the last. The Yakuza series (or Like a Dragon, as it is now called) has always been known how often she releases games, and one of her upcoming releases, as it turned out, was in the development of surprisingly shortly.

In a recent interview with Automaton, the director of the studio Masayoshi Yokoyama said that the future Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name was developed in just six months. According to him, after the developer team decided to devote a whole game to the story of what happened to the main character Kiryu between the events of Yakuza 6 and 7, the fact that the game is a derivative of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth allowed to create it Pretty fast.

There is no big difference between Like a Dragon Gaiden and Like a Dragon 8. By this I mean that in a sense, Like a Dragon Gaiden was a derivative of Like a Dragon 8. We could just tell about the past of Cyrus in a thirty -minute interludes within the framework of Like A Dragon 8, but we decided that it would be much more interesting as an independent game, and this project appeared. Although this meant that it was necessary to make an additional game, the same engine is used in it, so we thought: "Do not create it from scratch", and decided to follow this path. As a result, it took us about six months to create it.

Yokoyama added that although the studio considered the possibility of release Like a Dragon Gaiden as DLC, it was ultimately decided to move in a different direction.

I am the one who was the first to say: "let’s do that". I said: "If you are going to make an episode about the past of Cyrus, then it will be much faster to make a game about it". After that, we first thought to make it in the form of DLC, but then we decided that it was quite interesting for the physical edition. But for the physical publication, we needed more content, and we decided to add it. So everything twisted.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is released on November 9 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
